FAQs – DJ Workshops

No musical experience is required.

The first DJ workshop has been designed to be intensive learning for student(s) so that they have the immediate opportunity to practice and progress on their own afterwards.

Followup workshops are still recommended to:
- Recap DJ theory
- Refine transitions and techniques
- Encourage more independence and Q&As from the student(s).
In this course you will learn how to DJ using a:
- Pioneer DDJSX 4-channel controller
- Serato DJ Pro software to organise all your music
- Pioneer S-DJ50X active reference speaker
- Apple Macbook Pro

This equipment will be provided during the workshop.
It is recommended to purchase new equipment if possible to avoid disappointment on defective used equipment.
Some credible stores include:
- Store DJ
- Mannys
- Belfield Music
The role of a Dj is usually creating a desired vibe/ambience, entertaining a party and keeping a busy dance floor.

In order to do so involves:
- A carefully thought-out playlist to suit the audience
- Practice at home and in front of crowds, and
- Creating a smooth (and entertaining) song transition
Whether you are here to learn how to DJ for fun or progress a musical career, these workshops can arm student(s) with insights, knowledge and skills as party DJ.

- DJ'ing as a hobby means our workshop will be skewed towards bringing any of your ideas as a DJ to life.
- DJ'ing to make a living means our workshop will be skewed towards business & marketing strategies, creating a profile and setting guidelines.
- DJ'ing as a corporate team bonding exercise, means bringing your colleagues outside of their daily routine for a fun & creative learning activity.
Both! One-to-one DJ workshops as well as group DJ workshops up to 6 students are available.

Group workshops are currently capped to either:
- 6 adult students +18 years of age or older
- 3 students <18 years old for optimal learning

Group workshops will also require a nominal deposit to cover studio hire bookings and/or travel, any parking cost, set-up and pack-up.
Yes, kids are more than welcome to undertake DJ workshops.

The NSW Government require any music teachers and home-based education services that involve working with children to hold a Working With Children Check (WWCC) certificate.

Dj Dumplings' WWC number is: WWC1900721E.

To increase safety and reduce concerns, an adult guardian can accompany the student (however won't be able to participate in the workshop).

If clean/radio edits are required for the music being used for the DJ workshop, a small fee might apply for the sourcing and preparation of these songs to be used.
We can use any style or genre of music.
Student(s) will have access to a large range of music when the DJ Workshops are conducted on the day:
- Pop
- Hip hop & R&B
- Disco, funk & soul music
- House
- Ethnic

It's highly recommended that student(s) submit 10-20 songs (via email / Dropbox / Google Drive) to help tailor the DJ workshop further, and make the experience even more engaging.

The USB supplied (containing music) must be formatted to ex-Fat to be able to use on both PC and Mac operating systems.
Our DJ workshop will be held at a professional music studio in the Inner West.

It is possible to hold our DJ workshop your location for an additional cost to cover set-up time, travel, pack-up and any parking costs.

Our studio time will need to be booked as soon as possible to secure a spot. We will be allowed 48 hours cancellation period before a studio is booked.
It is recommended for 2 hour bookings to cover both theory and practical part of the DJ workshop.
We can assess after the 2nd hour whether an additional hour of workshop would be beneficial to practice new skills and focus on any key areas.
Set-up and pack-up time (before and afterwards) will usually require 30mins-1 hour depending on logistics and DJ booths to setup.
Yes! It is broken into 3 main parts where you will learn about:
1) Hardware (equipment setup)
2) Software (music preparations) and
3) Transition techniques.

Reviews

“Dumplings taught at our university hiphop society, D2MG. We were honored to have such a friendly, prepared and helpful DJ who genuinely cared about each and every student. He really catered the lessons to match each student’s style, and provided plenty of equipment for hands-on learning. Would definitely invite again  “ Jono
